Bean Seeds-powerhouse Of Nutrition
There are some plants that are devoid of fruit in which the growth of seeds occur, but are given a pod which is referred to as a bean. A bean forms an essential component of the seed holding plants. There are several types of bean plants, growing in a similar manner. The bean seeds are enclosed in a rigid outer shell. With the pouring of water, the bean seeds swell and it split opens. The bean seeds serve as an important fraction of plant which is eaten by an organism. Lima beans and peas are referred to as bean seeds.
Seeds are known as a sprouting plant which is enclosed in a cover referred as seed coat. The formation of seeds is complete with the process of reproduction in the foliage of seeds resulting in the formation of embryo from zygote and the formation of seed coat from ovule integuments.
Bean stands as a common name that is used to denote seeds of large plants belonging to Fabaceae genera. A Fabaceae genus was formerly known as Leguminosae. They are referred to as legumes also which are used as food. Dried beans or legumes are imperishable and have a great life shelf life also.
There are several kinds of beans that comprise navy beans, black beans, mung beans, black eyed peas, great northern beans, pinto beans, garbanzo beans, kidney beans, broad or fava beans, lima beans and cannelloni beans. In terms of nutrition they are powerhouses of minerals, vitamins and energy. They also serve as sources of potassium, iron, protein and phosphorus. They are free from fat and good fiber source too. Hey also provide an organism with mall quantity of calcium, which is approximately 40-80 milligrams each cup. Initially the term bean was used to denote a broad beans seed. But now the term comprises genus Phaseolus's member hat includes haricot or common bean, members of genus Vigna and runner bean. The term is generally applied to many others that include lupins, lentils, vetches, kidney beans, soybeans. Beans are a synonym of edible legume and pulse. Pulses do not comprise the crops that are exclusively used for the extraction of oil that includes peanut and soybean and the crops used for the purpose of sowing such as alfalfa and clover. In English usage, the term beans refer to the various organs of the non leguminosae which are identical in terms of semblance to the vegetables such as cocoa beans, castor beans, vanilla beans and coffee beans. Cocoa beans have close resemblance to bean seeds.
